Opening Faculty Meeting, 1972 / Simon Mein's Remarks to Faculty

These remarks were delivered by Rev. Canon P. Simon Mein, chaplain, corridor master, play producer, at the opening faculty meeting on September 8, 1972. Simon explains the need to improve the social environment for the boys. As Simon says: "I want to suggest that we need (a) to be aware of the kind of influences working on our boys and ourselves be secure enough to accept the challenge that it may present to many of our own (hidden?) premises. Here rejection or incomprehension will not help them to grow and develop a healthy critical faculty for their own ideas, and (b) more than that we need to welcome and nurture what may be a real movement away from a culture too much dominated by materialistic values."
